FUN
ACTIVITIES FOR BASH SWIMMERS
We had 2
fun activities over the past weekend. Good participation at the Bowling and the
Cyclone Game!
We heard
Coach Calvin got a “turkey” at the bowling ally and Coach Evan couldn’t figure
how to get to the concession stand at the ice hockey game.
This coming Thursday, Coach Bill and 2 BASH swimmers are
headed off to Atlanta to swim in the USA Swimming Senior National Short Course
Championships. This is the biggest meet in swimming this winter. Many former
Olympic swimmers will be competing (like Michael Phelps, etc.). The meet is at
the Georgia Tech pool that hosted the 1996 Olympics.
Our 2 BASH swimmers are Amanda Rom and Stephanie Conklin,
each swimming the 100 and 200 Breaststrokes.
Each is going after an Olympic Trials’ qualifying time at
the meet.
Stephanie just sign for an athletic scholarship at
University of Cincinnati next year, Amanda signed for a scholarship to Bowling
Green University.
We wish the best to Amanda and Stephanie!
After
recovering from our meet a week ago – here are some results –
We met our budgeted income for the
meet, we had numerous positive responses from other coaches and teams, we had
only positive responses from the YMCA and our coaches were happy with our
swimmers results. We still have much to improve on in the pool, but we have
been making good progress.
The
following are a few of the many who deserve special recognition because of
their work at the BASH Invitational:
Barry
Stedman for being the meet director another year, and having everything run
smoothly again.
Robin Smith
for helping Barry and learning the “meet director’s” position
Susan Kane
for another great running the concessions
Diane
Marcello for hosting the coaches hospitality (very positive comments for other
coaches)
Mary Fischer (Timer Superior) for working 5 or more sessions
Mike Cappel for working 5 or more sessions on the timing system (a super
effort, Mike!)
The Kane family for going above and beyond the call of duty organizing
Concessions
The Kruspe family for going above and beyond the call of duty organizing Clerk
of Course
The Krone Family for working 5 or more sessions
Kumar (Mr. Fixit) who spent several days assembling bleachers, installing
wireless sound system, etc.
Martin Prescott for giving up his weekend and working at the meet, without a
swimmer on the team
Kermit Warner, Don Schornak, Barry Stedman, Bob Harris and Kumar for working on
the timing system, scoreboard and bleacher weeks before the meet.
All the
families who are new to the team, who took a big step into YMCA Swimming by
working at (and surviving) their first meet.
Rob Schramm, who worked on the communications at the swim meet with our local
cell phone companies.
Our meet
was again well run. Some years, we have had some real issues behind the scenes,
but this was one year that we had few problems. It was due to our extra effort
before the meet started – checking the timing system ahead of time, a seminar
learning more about the timing system and the extra effort a few of our parents
made weeks before the meet organizing and trying to head off problems.
